Wagebill Conference Preparation Meeting

On 25 March 2024, the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC), led by Lyn Mengich, Chairperson, along with conveners and co-opted members of the Third National Wage Bill Conference, 2024, deliberated on the preparatory plans for the conference.

The meeting, which took place at SRC offices, was attended by Amos N. Gathecha, Principal Secretary, State Department for Public Service; Phillip Mongóny, Chairperson, State Corporations Advisory Committee (SCAC); and Kithinji Kiragu, Chairperson, Inter-Governmental Relations Technical Committee, among other dignitaries.

Media Breakfast

The Steering Committee of the Third National Wage Bill Conference, 2024, held a media breakfast on 21 March 2024 at the Sarova Panafric, Nairobi, in preparation for the conference.

The roundtable discussion was attended by Lyn Mengich, Chairperson; H.E. Mutahi Kahiga, Chairperson, Human Resources, Labour, and Social Welfare Committee, Council of Governors (COG); Amos Gathecha, Principal Secretary, State Department for Public Service; Veronica Nduva, Principal Secretary, State Department for Performance and Delivery; Kithinji Kiragu, Chairman, Intergovernmental Relations Technical Committee (IGRTC); Mr. Philiph Mongóny, Chairman, State Corporations Advisory Committee (SCAC); and Sylvester Obongo, Director, on behalf of PSC Chairperson.

The engagement with media editors and journalists created awareness and sensitisation on the purpose of the conference and sought wider media coverage and visibility before, during, and after the conference.

During the 10th Ordinary Session of the National and County Governments Coordinating Summit meeting held at State House, Nairobi on 18 December 2023, under the Chairmanship of H.E. The President, the Summit resolved (Resolution 15) that SRC, jointly with the Intergovernmental Relations Technical Committee (IGRTC) and Council of Governors (COG), should convene the NWBC, 2024.

Further, the resolution states that the national government committed to reduce its wage bill to 35 per cent of revenue in line with the provisions of the Public Finance Management Act (PFM), 2012, by 2028 and urged the county governments to align.
